Jeep Willys 1944 Custom tubular

dosop Wild Willys-project has been started since mid 2010. At that time, some photos have emerged in the process ngebangunnya facebook account Teguh Widodo, skipper ProRock Engineering, Solo. And of course, provoke our attention. Understandably, many considered too oldshool Willys to fight in competitions adventure now. Limitations of the components, as well as the technology used lawasnya (over 70 years!), Willys made more as a collector's item rather than the ultimate weapon in the competition.

Sure, the Willys was different. In the beginning, it was of interest to zoom. Original figure is easily recognizable, but with some extreme changes, which is expected to be able to follow the tight battle adventure today.

The owner was Gideon Agus Tjahjono, off-roader that also senior chairman of IOF Komcab Surakarta. Was predictable, mas Agus has been in existence long enough in the off-road adventure, and very loyal to the Willys. "Since the beginning of the main off-road, I did kenalnya Willys. This is my second Willys, "he explained.

With the first Willysnya, he has penetrated various off-road competitions all over Java, Kalimantan up. In the event Srongpas II in Winton, Agus could make a scene. He was stabbed in second, non elimination, against the jeeps adventure heavyweight fight at that time.

Because ingrained with his champion 4x4, Agus also maintains several major parts which were deemed to be viable at this time. The main engine and axle. "The engine that you know, power available from low rpm, making it easy to bend in the track adventure. While gardannya, because the comparison is still difficult to replace teeth fit with the character of the machine. "

However, in addition to the engine and axle, modified deviated almost all parts of the manufacturer's specifications. Although he was forced to sacrifice some Willys distinctive character, such as a flexible chassis. But significantly, he actually increase some other abilities.

Do not be long winded, let us direct the change Willys detail look this wacky!

Engine

Mounted slightly back from its original position in the engine room, engine innards configuration sidevalve 2,200 cc 4-cylinder is not much left untouched. Built and maintained by Harianto Utomo, a friend familiar mainstay Agus Willys engine problem. According to Agus, in addition to strength of character that is considered suitable for adventure competition, the actual 1944 Willys engine OEM's quite stubborn. "When you say fussy, probably because the components and conditions are already bad."

Certainly some reconditioned parts, with most components ordered from overseas via the internet. Using a two-barrel carburetor Dellorto with a custom manifold. Enhanced exhaust with headers, which are also custom.

While assisted CDI ignition and coil Mallory Porter, and spark plug wires grounding Hurricane equipped.

Agus actually intend to convert to electronic injection system, but for a while he was waiting for a Holley carburetor when photographed, still on the way from America.
Problem Willys parts are considered rare, Agus apparently not worried. "I also still keep 3 engine again for the spare."

Suspension

This has changed compared to the original total. Because ORI Strut suspension adopts air-travel 12 and 14-inch (front-back), made of aluminum alloy link rods are coded 7075 to hold and control the movement of the axle when the suspension work. Type of aluminum is chosen because it is unique, it can return to its original shape when bent impact.

ORI Strut configuration is much more simple, and suitable for the character of off-road competition in Indonesia. In one unit, already there are functions per (pneumatic) and sokbreker, the specification competition. Tuning even more simple than the usual shock coilover setup.

Axle

Still retain the original default. The difference is, this axle direinforce, and made a special holder for ORI Strut suspension of his. One reason Agus maintain the axle, as deemed fit by the gear final outturn. "This ring pinion ratio 4:38, is quite low."

Even so, he also added front and rear locker, which is a special order from America. Richmond Lock Rite locker made it activated mechanically, like a Detroit Locker.

Chassis

Although not very visible, but suspension changes require some modifications to the chassis of the famous Willys bending it. Widodo added bracing in some parts. Including semi-tubular chassis that protects the passengers well rollcage, and strengthen the chassis.

Willys loyal fans might be worried, because the flexibility of the chassis that became his trademark character is lost. However, it was all replaced by a suspension articulation is much better than the original. After all, who deliberately made flexible chassis was part of the of the old technology, when the suspension is not as sophisticated now.

With a more rigid chassis, so the actual comfort and better handling, especially combined with the latest suspension technology.

Steering System
In addition to the suspension and chassis, steering system also heavily modified. More precisely, replaced in their entirety. Mechanical system was replaced with a package of artificial PSC hydraulic power steering (full hydraulic system). PSC hydraulic steering made known of the event began to rock crawling, because the installation is flexible and round the wheel very lightly but powerfully move heavy loads.

Using a conventional rudder trunk pipeline to continue round to the steering wheel. The PSC package to replace all the hydraulic system. Round forwarded to the steering wheel via a hydraulic medium specialty lubricants, through a flexible hose. Steering fluid pressure driven hydraulic pump special.

As a result, the steering light but strong round rotate heavy loads. In addition, this system also reduces the amount of seliweran pipes in the engine room. For custom applications, the favorite because the position of the steering wheel can be adjusted as needed.
