Land Rover's design was first designed in 1948, by Maurice Wilks (chief designer at the Rover car company) in United Kingdom. Precisely at a private farm located in Newborough, Anglesey island, off the coast of Wales. Some opinions expressed Maurice Wilks possibly inspired by the Standard Motor Company, which produce a Ferguson TE20 tractor was very successful, in their shadow factory in Coventry. But Maurice Wilks himself admits, that the design was inspired by the Land Rover Jeep. When Maurice Wilks was on vacation during the summer, there is a used Jeep car to get around.

Pre-production of the first Land Rover was developed by a team led by engineer Arthur Goddard. Tests were carried out on this experiment may indicate that this vehicle is tough and versatile.
